Jambojet launches additional local flights as it gears towards regional expansion

Budget airline Jambojet has yet again increased their flight frequencies across all their routes countrywide.

The no frills airline has increased its flights from Nairobi to Mombasa from 22 flights to 39 flights per week, while the Kisumu route will now have twenty flights per week up from the previous 14 flights per week.

Jambojet CEO, Willem Hondius said that: we have increased our frequency to not only address the demand for our service across the various routes but to also offer flexibility and flight variety to our customers. We will be offering upto 6 flights a day to Mombasa and will be introducing a 7am flight for the businessman who requires a full day in Mombasa.

“The New Year always comes with fresh opportunities, and we’re delighted to be able to offer additional flight choices to our customers.”

The new development comes barely a week after Jambojet phased out the Boeing 737 which had been leased from Kenya Airways.  The airline will now operate its three newly acquired Dash 8 Q400 propeller powered aircrafts which makes the fleet arguably the youngest fleet globally.

“We are pleased that more passengers are choosing to fly over other means of transport. The demand has been growing especially on the coastal routes, a clear indicator that Jambojet is contributing immensely to the growth of domestic tourism and the economy at large.”

The budget airline will have 29 additional flights per week from the current 73 flights across its network, six destinations, providing passenger’s added flexibility to manage their travel.
The fast growing Eldoret and Kisumu routes will now have an afternoon flight on all weekdays. Ukunda will get four additional flights respectively. In total, the coastal route will be having 62 flights per week.
The latest expansion increases the number of Jambojet flights from JKIA to 408 per month – only last month the airline embarked on plans to begin operating regional flights to Entebbe, in Uganda.
Jambojet is currently the main local airline operating on all local major routes countrywide. The airline has achieved undeniable business growth; increased numbers of routes from four to six, increased frequency of flights due to fleet expansion and flown over two million passengers. LG to offer intuitive technology that aims to curb road carnage

Road deaths are rising, with almost 1.5 million people killed in 2016 globally in road accidents. In Kenya, in the last one week alone, over 75 people have lost their lives in multiple accident.

Pressure has been building on road designers, carmakers and technology providers to tackle the rising number of fatalities that occur from sometimes distracted drivers. In some instances, old age has been attributed to road accidents orchestrated by decline in physical and cognitive capabilities.

Old people with over 70 years and sometimes young people under the influence of alcohol are more likely to make driving errors in which they failed to correctly judge speed or the distance between their vehicle and another. In such instances, smart technology such as enhanced safety features and crash avoidance technology helps make older drivers meet their daily transportation needs.

As it has become clear that eradicating accidents by means of vehicle passive safety efforts alone is becoming a challenge, research and development of systems for preventing accidents through road-vehicle cooperation and vehicle-vehicle cooperation have come in handy and more intuitive innovation is underway to enhance their effective use.

LG Electronics has emerged as one of the front runners in breaking barriers to design innovative technology to prevent road accidents. LG’S Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) can help drivers of all ages make better decisions, increasing road safety for all. The system has smart camera that collects traffic information accurately responding to the surrounding environment in real time.

The system can also detect objects from a distance and even apply autonomous emergency braking if a collision is imminent. Its advanced lane keeping assist technology allows the car to stay in its lane while maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles.

“As LG, we believe that innovation and right technology such as Advanced Driver Assistance System could greatly reduce traffic accidents. There is a lot of investment and harnessing of technology that is going into our efforts to ensure we realize safety on our roads.” Said LG East Africa Marketing Manager, Moses Marji.

When fully implemented, ADAS will make it possible for drivers both old and young to perform better while lowering the risk of vehicle related injuries.

TECHNOLOGY HAS SIMPLIFIED LIVES AND ENHANCED SOCIETAL PARTICIPATION

The uses of technology in our daily lives increases by day, from simple tasks to complex management systems, technology has made life easier than we ever expected. Today, many people own devices that are technology viable, devices that have changed the way they do business as well as how they interact on a daily basis.
Here in Kenya, Safaricom has been harnessing innovation through M-Pesa, the mobile money platform has revolutionized the way we do business at all levels, from the mama mboga to multinationals that are using the platform to make payments all over the world. A clear indicator on how inclusivity has been enhanced world over. Technology has been used today in business to boost productivity, save money, and enhance profits.
Currently, Safaricom has over 26 million M-Pesa users who have so far transacted over 184 billion in the last decade. This service has evolved from just being about money transfer but to impacting people lives. Communities across the region rely on M-Pesa on accessing basic needs like water and healthcare that are paid through this revolutionary platform.
As schools witness the expanding trends of technological integration and technological literacy, LG continues to demonstrate its dedication to developing innovative and advanced educational display solutions. From information, to the internet, to broadcast content, LG delivers products such as LCD’s, desktop monitors that are performance driven and designed to maximize content.
As the year comes to a close, it’s only fair to say that the pace of innovation is quite impressive. Driverless cars, drones, connected homes and 3-D virtual reality will soon takeover from the mobile apps that have dominated the country in the past ten years.
We are certainly living in exciting times thanks to tech innovation. They have enhanced openness and societal participation.

LG continues to support disability inclusion with sponsorship to Kikuyu Hospital.

(L-R), Mr. Patrick Kimpiatu (CEO, PCEA Kikuyu Hospital) receives a cheque from LG Electronics Chief Finance Officer Mr. Jinho Seok.
The last Kenya census which was held in 2009 showed that there are about 1.3 million people living with disabilities in Kenya. For years, disabled people have had to rely on somebody else doing things for them.

They face challenges in their day to day activities due to limitations in sight, speech, physical or mental capabilities. Moreover, they face adversity every day of their lives due to stigmatization and isolation.

New technologies have had a dramatic impact on the way we live. Not only have new innovations transformed the way we communicate with one another, but they've also had a transformative effect on how we go about our daily routines.

While people with disabilities still face numerous challenges, it is fair to say that new technologies are providing them with new opportunities. Of course, those with disabilities often find it difficult to operate technologies in the way able-bodied users do, but there have been a wide range of innovative methods aimed at making these technologies more accessible.

They have created opportunities for people with disabilities to break barriers that would have previously prevented access to their goals and dreams, including pursuing higher education.
As the technology industry continues to emerge as a key partner to the global development community, electronics company LG has demonstrated its support for persons living with various physical deformities in Kenya.

Earlier this year, LG offered financial support to P.C.E.A Kikuyu hospital’s orthopedic rehabilitation unit by donating four million shillings to the hospital. The existing partnership that is currently in its 11th year, has seen hundreds of people with amputated legs and arms from across the country acquire artificial limbs.

“LG Electronics believes in giving back to the communities in which we do business through causes that empower them to unleash their full potential,” said LG East Africa Marketing Manager Moses Marji.

“We will continue supporting this cause and we are always searching for any initiatives that can help improve the lives of those within our communities” he added.
