They face challenges in their day to day activities due to limitations in sight, speech, physical or mental capabilities. Moreover, they face adversity every day of their lives due to stigmatization and isolation.
New technologies have had a dramatic impact on the way we live. Not only have new innovations transformed the way we communicate with one another, but they've also had a transformative effect on how we go about our daily routines.
While people with disabilities still face numerous challenges, it is fair to say that new technologies are providing them with new opportunities. Of course, those with disabilities often find it difficult to operate technologies in the way able-bodied users do, but there have been a wide range of innovative methods aimed at making these technologies more accessible.
They have created opportunities for people with disabilities to break barriers that would have previously prevented access to their goals and dreams, including pursuing higher education.
As the technology industry continues to emerge as a key partner to the global development community, electronics company LG has demonstrated its support for persons living with various physical deformities in Kenya.
Earlier this year, LG offered financial support to P.C.E.A Kikuyu hospital’s orthopedic rehabilitation unit by donating four million shillings to the hospital. The existing partnership that is currently in its 11th year, has seen hundreds of people with amputated legs and arms from across the country acquire artificial limbs.
“LG Electronics believes in giving back to the communities in which we do business through causes that empower them to unleash their full potential,” said LG East Africa Marketing Manager Moses Marji.
“We will continue supporting this cause and we are always searching for any initiatives that can help improve the lives of those within our communities” he added.
