Before the invention of the TV in 1927, most American homes only had access to one traditional form of communication - Radio. But with the invention of the TV in 1927 by Philo Taylor, the demand for TV’s rapidly grew.  By the 90’s, over 98% of U.S homes had at least one television set.

This birth of television was deemed as a breakthrough in the technology industry. With the average person spending five hours every day glued to TV, it goes to show the role it plays in our lives. From watching news to football matches and keeping up with what is trending in the modern world, Television paved the way to digital viewership.

Having come from the black and white form of TV transmission we have experienced a great transition of TV’s with each new version outdoing the previous one. In a battle to outdo the other, TV manufacturers have been neck to neck to come up with smarter, more colorful and slim televisions that will capture the consumers attention.

In recent years, television viewership has been changing as there has been a rapid rise in streaming services. This has made developers rethink how TV’s are being made hence the birth of smart TV’s. Statistics show that more than half of TV sets sold in 2017 are smart. LG, as a pioneer in the making of TV products have been able to develop one of the most unique smart and award winning TV’s of this generation.

They come equipped with the revolutionary webOS platform, providing users with instant access to a wide collection of content from live programming to popular streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, YouTube and Amazon Prime Video. With its Magic Remote feature that allows users access to all features, the Quick Access buttons help users to quickly select their favorite content. It also gives users the option of Intelligent Voice Recognition that conveniently provides users to issue voice commands.

In addition, the TV comes with another feature; Magic Link that simplifies the search process by playing the role of predictive text, making it easier to find the content you are looking for.

With no doubt, Smart TVs serve as the bridge between computers and traditional TVs. With the intelligent webOS, more viewers are able to experience TV like never before.

Speaking during the launch of the Smart TV edition in Nairobi, LG Marketing manager said, “With the rapid growth of technology advancement in the world, LG is committed to ensure that we are at par with the market needs with design leadership. Streaming services in the next few years will be at the fore-front of content in terms of viewership, and what better way than getting a TV that gives you the power in your hands as well as the best display options.”

The global smart TV market is expected to reach USD 292.55 billion by 2025, according to a new report by Grand View Research, Inc. The introduction of 4K resolution-equipped televisions, coupled with the shifting preference toward OLED and QLED displays, is expected to emerge as a major trend in the smart TV industry.

The immersive viewing display remains the quality standard that every manufacturer aspires to as the flat-panel industry pursues bigger, brighter, slimmer, faster, and cheaper displays.

When it comes to television panels, the industry gold standard is the OLED TV. Unlike conventional LCD displays, OLED screens feature pixels that light up independently and individually, negating the need for a backlight. Therefore, the OLED TV provides a more powerful and efficient viewing experience, but that’s not all. Thanks to the fact that individual pixels can be turned on or off, it’s possible to display true blacks, meaning OLED screens can offer a wider dynamic range and colour gamut.

Moreover, OLED panels are flexible, rollable and transparent. Korea's LG is at the forefront of OLED development and production - as the world's only OLED TV producer and a leading developer of flexible OLED and OLED lighting panels. LG's subsidiary ‘LG Display’ is responsible for OLED R&D and panel production, while LG Electronics produces and markets OLED TVs.

LG is a design leader in OLED TV technologies. It is one of the pioneering companies that produces commercial panels. The Electronics Company has diverse products in the global market- ranging from 55 to 77. Some of these are flat, and some are curved, and all the latest models support 4K (UHD) resolution and HDR.

While the basic OLED TV design uses RGB OLED sub-pixels to create each 'pixel' (what is referred to as direct emission OLED), LG Display opted for a different OLED TV design. The so-called WRGB architecture uses four white OLED subpixels with color filters on top (hence W+RBG). The WRGB technology (developed by Kodak and now owned by LG Display) is much easier to produce and scale-up, even though it has some technical disadvantages - and it is the technology that enabled LG to be the first company to actually produce commercial OLED TV panels.G Display sees a brighter picture with OLED

KENYA RAILWAYS TO INTRODUCE AN AFTERNOON TRIP ON THE MADARAKA EXPRESS PASSENGER SERVICE

Kenya Railways has today introduced a second trip on the Madaraka Express Passenger Service. The new service which will depart the Nairobi and Mombasa Termini at 3:30 pm will act as an express train and complement the existing morning service which will now transform into an inter county train service.
The new development will also see the Corporation revise the current train schedule, with the morning inter-county train departing Mombasa and Nairobi stations at 8:00 am and making a stopovers at each of the seven intermediate stations along the Mombasa to Nairobi stretch of the Standard Gauge Railway project which are Athi River, Emali, Kibwezi, Mtito Andei, Voi, Miasenyi and Emali. Kenya Railways has already successfully operated  the Voi and Mtito Andei stations, with the rollout of full operations at all stations expected to allow all residents in the counties traversed by SGR  to enjoy our service.

Development Cabinet Secretary James Macharia
Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Cabinet Secretary James Macharia said that the new service is part of measures to increase access and lower the cost of transport across the country.
By introducing an additional service we hope to make it more difficult for middle men to take advantage of Kenyans by doubling the availability of train tickets as well as the daily train capcity. The SGR is a government project paid for with taxpayer funds and it is therefore unacceptable for anyone to acquire tickets and seek to extort Kenyans through higher prices.” CS. Macharia added. “Anyone found to be interfering with the service or seeking to exploit Kenyans, will be dealt with in accordance with the law.”
Kenya Railways Managing Director Mr. A. K. Maina said that the new service is aimed at providing the type of service the public has demanded since the passenger train was launched. He said that the operations of the inter-county train will ensure that residents in the counties traversed by the Standard Gauge Railway line now enjoy the train services as they go about their daily business.
Kenya Railways Managing Director Mr. A. K. Maina
“With the roll out of the second service Kenya Railways and the operator will be able to full gauge the demand for travel on the line in the interest of introducing the final frequencies and service schedules.” Mr. Maina Added. “The Madaraka Express has already had significant impact on both domestic and international tourism, in this regard Kenya Railways is also working with the Operator to gauge the expected increase in demand during the upcoming festive season with a view to creating provisional train services to meet the expected increase in demand.”

The Madaraka Express Passenger service has been in operation for five months following a colorful commissioning ceremony by H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta. To date the service has transported approximately 337,000 passengers and the numbers are growing by the day.

The Corporation has also been engaged by the Kenyan Government to transport relief food from the Port of Mombasa to the ICD. This has served as the testing phase for the Freight service and to date approximately 120,000 tonnes of cereals have been transported. The Corporation has also announced that the testing phase for commercial cargo is set to commence in November and the full commercial operations on the freight service will commence in 2018. The freight service is expected to lower the cost of cargo transport by up to 35% between the port of Mombasa and the Nairobi Inland Container Deport. It is expected that this cost saving will be passed on to consumers with the cost of transport and logistics thought to account for up to 40% of the cost of goods and services.
