The
Olympics is among us and with majority of fans watching it at home, LG
has made it better, thanks to OLED and other advanced TVs, those
watching
from a couch at home sometimes have a better view of the action than
spectators at the stadium cheering for their favorite athletes to win
gold at the games.
Not
only do the lucky viewers at home see the action in higher clarity but
they also have the benefit of instant replay, additional camera angles
and even audio commentary to enhance the play on the field.
In
some cases, home spectators can see even more than the referees and
players on the field, as long as the action is captured by cameras
somewhere
in the stadium. Despite the enormous power of modern HD equipment, there
are times when even these advanced cameras fail to pick up a clear
shot.
One
American football team installed a ring of cameras pointing at the
field that allows operators in the control room to rotate pictures and
catch any moment from any angle. LG has developed a mobile 360 degree
camera that can be held from a single point and capture images in every
direction. It’s speculative to suggest that maybe we will see this
applied to home sports broadcasts, but the technology
is certainly there. It is also possible that this technology could soon
give rise to 360 degree helmet-cam views or something very similar. This
will ensure that every shot on goal, every close play at the plate and
every foul in the paint is recorded.
